Start Right Now

The Provincial Government is partnering with Canadian Tire Corporation, ParticipACTION, School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District to promote and increase physical activity opportunities for school-aged children. 'Start Right Now' is the tagline being used to promote this approach.

Active Schools

Active Schools provide students with the opportunity to learn through curriculum-based activities. The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District's Active Schools program has classroom teachers incorporating 20 minutes of curriculum-linked activity in the classroom each day.

In 2014-15, CSSD partnered with ParticipACTION to deliver a social marketing campaign, entitled 'Make Room for Play' through television and online advertising in NL markets.

In 2015-16, ParticipACTION will develop and execute a province-wide digital communications campaign that will inspire parents and children to make physical activity a higher priority in daily life.

Participation Nation

Participation Nation is delivered by School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador. Through Participation Nation, students are exposed to a variety of traditional and non-traditional activities where the focus is on having fun and not keeping score. Participation Nation encourages students who would normally only take part in the required physical education curriculum to be more physically active and feel good about their participation. Participation Nation includes a variety of programs targeted at students from K-12.
